Home - Ensembles
The heart of the Folly Quarter Band Program are the three concert bands. Placement is by audition and grade level.
Wind Ensemble is comprised of students from 7th & 8th Grade. It meets daily for 50-minute rehearsals. Students are also pulled once a week on a rotating basis from their remaining classes. The ensemble plays music from Grade III through Grade V.
Symphonic Band is comprised of students from 8th, 7th and (a few from) 6th Grade. It meets daily for 50-minute rehearsals. Students are also pulled once a week on a rotating basis from their remaining classes. The ensemble plays music from Grade III through Grade IV.
Concert Band is comprised of students from 6th and 7th Grades. It meets daily for 50-minute rehearsals. Students are also pulled once a week on a rotating basis from their remaining classes. The ensemble plays music from Grade I through Grade III.
Chamber Symphony is a full orchestra co-taught by Mr. Spang and Dr. Walls. It is comprised of the top band and strings students at FQMS. Selection is by director selection. The ensemble provides an extended enrichment for advanced students by exposing them to the unique sound of a full orchestral pallet. It meets for special rehearsals in place of a student's rehearsal or sectional.
Trombone Choir meets after school on Mondays and is open to all students who play trombone. Former students and community members are encouraged to attend. This ensemble performs music for trombone ensembles, 3 to 8 parts, from Grade I through Grade VI.
Percussion Ensemble meets after school on Mondays and is open to all students. Led by Mrs. Laurie Shum, this ensemble performs music for a variety of percussive ensembles and various traditions.
Gold Jazz Band is the top jazz ensemble at Folly Quarter. The ensemble performs music of many styles, including swing, rock, funk, latin, and more. Membership is by audition only. It rehearses after school on Tuesdays.
Blue Jazz Band is the second jazz ensemble at Folly Quarter. The ensemble performs music of many styles, including swing, rock, funk, latin, and more. Membership is by audition only. It rehearses after school on Wednesdays.
Jazz Combo is a small jazz group that focuses on the art of improvisation and rhythmic comping. Students utilize head tunes to develop a vocabulary of improvisational techniques. This ensemble performs at a variety of school functions and often serves as ambassadors of the Band Program.
